Johnny Cueto (ankle) was hit hard in his second minor league rehab start for Double-A Pensacola on Friday, giving up four runs on seven hits across 3 2/3 innings.
The good news, is that the 37-year-old hurler made it through the outing healthy. He struck out one batter in the ballgame and didn't issue a base on balls -- throwing 42 of his 62 total pitches for strikes. He's expected to require one additional minor league tune-up before he's ready to return to the Marlins' rotation.

The Padres had high hopes for the 23-year-old hurler this season, but he has stumbled to a 6.08 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 27/15 K/BB ratio over 40 innings. He’ll work to refine his craft at the Triple-A level.

Padres placed LHP Tom C
The severity of the hamstring strain – and how much time Cosgrove stands to miss – remain up in the air. Cosgrove has been an integral cog in the Padres’ bullpen this season – registering a stellar 0.53 ERA, 0.53 WHIP and a 15/2 K/BB ratio over his 17 innings of work. Nabil Crismatt was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.

With Max Muncy (hamstring) landing on the injured list, Busch will get another chance to show what he can do at the big league level. The 25-year-old has hit .211/.348/.211 with zero homers, two RBI and a stolen base in 23 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season.

The 26-year-old hurler has really struggled through seven appearances (six starts) for the Dodgers this season – compiling an 8.10 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 30/9 K/BB ratio over 30 innings. He’ll attempt to right the ship at the Triple-A level before returning to help the big league club later in the season.

Athletics’ skipper Mark Kotsay called his removal from the lineup a precautionary measure, and Smith should be considered day-to-day. Jonah Bride will start at third base for the A’s on Friday night while Aledmys Diaz covers shortstop against Taijuan Walker and the Phillies.

Matt Manning (foot) pitched well in a minor league rehab start at Triple-A Toledo on Friday, allowing just an unearned run on five hits over his three-plus innings of work.
The right-hander punched out two batters in the ballgame and fired 36 of his 59 pitches for strikes. Manning has been shelved since early April dur to a fractured right foot. He'll need at least one more rehab start -- and probably two -- before he's ready to rejoin the big league rotation.
Padres recalled LHP Ray
The 28-year-old hurler has already fired 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the Padres this season – posting a 0.75 WHIP and 2/0 K/BB ratio in the process. Ryan Weathers was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move on Friday.

Casey Schmitt is absent from the Giants' starting lineup once again on Friday night.
The rookie shortstop continues to lose playing time and could be heading back to Triple-A any day now if his struggles continue. Brandon Crawford is manning shortstop on Friday night against the Dodgers while Wilmer Flores handles the hot corner for the Giants.
Eduardo Rodriguez (finger) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday at Target Field in Minnesota.
Rodriguez is traveling with the team as he continues to recover from a ruptured pulley in his left index finger. The fact that he's now throwing bullpen sessions is obviously an encouraging development and it may not be long now before he's cleared to face live hitters. Before landing on the injured list, the left-hander had compiled a brilliant 2.13 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 67/16 K/BB ratio across 67 2/3 innings of work.
Yankees' manager Aaron Boone noted on Friday that Nestor Cortes (shoulder) could start his throwing program on Sunday.
The left-hander has been shelved since early June due to a left rotator cuff sprain. The fact that he's already up and ready to throw again bodes well for his status going forward. He's unlikely to rejoin the Yankees' rotation before the All-Star break, but if all goes right he could be ready shortly thereafter.

The injury isn’t believed to be serious and Fairchild is considered day-to-day. Will Benson will replace him in right field and will bat sixth against J.P. France and the Astros on Friday night.

It’s unlikely that he works very deep into Friday’s game.
