Domingo Germán was lit up for seven runs in two-plus innings by the Red Sox on Friday.
Germán wasn't hit as hard as the line suggests, but the Red Sox really took advantage of the Green Monster (and some lousy Yankee defense) in this one, hitting five doubles and one homer before Germán was removed in the third. Germán gave up more runs tonight than in his previous four starts combined. His ERA jumped from 3.49 to 4.30.
Making his major league debut, Matt Krook gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief Friday against the Red Sox.
Imagine finally getting a chance to pitch in the majors after seven seasons in the minors and giving up three runs in your first inning of work because you failed to cover first base. Krook didn't realize that Anthony Rizzo was trying to make the play on what probably should have been the second baseman's ball, and there was no one on first after Rizzo gathered it in. It should have been the third out of the inning. After it wasn't, Justin Turner followed with a grand slam.
Jeimer Candelario doubled three times against the Marlins on Friday.
Unfortunately, he was left with zero runs or RBI for his nice showing. Candelario is tied for eighth in the majors with his 20 doubles. He has one more double in 65 games this year than he did in 124 games with the Tigers last season.
A.J. Puk recorded his eighth save with a scoreless ninth Friday against the Nationals.
Puk could have had a disastrous outing last time out against the Mariners if not for Jesús Sánchez going over the wall to steal a grand slam, but he's been quite good otherwise since coming off the IL last week. He's taken just one blown save this season.
Sandy Alcantara was charged with five runs in 5 1/3 innings Friday against the Nationals.
Alcantara gave up 10 hits for the second time this season. He allowed 12 hard-hit balls while settling for just one strikeout and seven missed swings. None of those missed swings came on the 42 four-seamers and sinkers he threw. The numbers say Alcantara has been fairly unlucky this year, but he was mostly just bad tonight. Maybe he needs a week off or something. His ERA stands at 4.97 right now.

Jared Shuster cruised to his fourth victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Rockies to just one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
The 24-year-old southpaw issued three walks on the evening while striking out two. The lone tally against him came during his final inning of work on an RBI ground out off the bat of Randal Grichuk. The Braves staked him to an early 8-0 lead in this one, and all Shuster had to do was keep the train on the tracks -- which he did very effectively. He generated five whiffs on 93 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 22 percent. He'll look to further improve upon his 4.39 ERA and 1.37 WHIP when he squares off against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Thusday.
Eddie Rosario swatted his 10th home run of the season as the Braves walloped the Rockies on Friday evening in Atlanta.
Rosario hit the third of three two-run blasts off of Rockies' starter Dinelson Lamet in this one -- with his 443-foot (103.4 mph EV) blast in the fourth inning increasing the Braves' edge to 7-0. He also drew a walk in the contest, finishing the night 1-for-3. On the season, the 31-year-old outfielder is now hitting .250/.286/.462 with 10 long balls and 29 RBI. Five of those homers have come since the calendar flipped to June.
Ezequiel Tovar went 2-for-4 as the Rockies were clobbered by the Braves on Friday night in Atlanta.
Tovar smacked a one-out single off of Jared Shuster in the top half of the first inning, but was gunned down attempting to steal second base. He then singled in the sixth inning and took second on a wild pitch, but was ultimately stranded at third base. With his two-hit attack, Tovar is now hitting .255/.292/.416 with six homers, 30 RBI and three stolen bases during his rookie campaign.

The severity of the hamstring strain – and how much time Cosgrove stands to miss – remain up in the air. Nabil Crismatt was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.
