Chris Murphy will serve as the Red Sox' 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
Murphy tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and only one walk back on June 7 in his big league debut against the Guardians. The 25-year-old lefty provides the Red Sox with some extra long relief depth for Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees and might get a chance to replace Tanner Houck in their starting rotation moving forward.
Enrique Hernández is at shortstop and batting eighth for the first game of Sunday's twin bill against the Yankees.
Guess who's back? Hernández returns to playing shortstop following a three-game demotion. It was just a few days ago when Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters the versatile veteran was going to spend less time at the position. The 31-year-old has been an excellent contributor for Boston over the last few years, but the advanced defensive metrics reveal that he probably shouldn't be playing shortstop anymore.
Nick Williams has signed with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Williams was a highly-touted prospect last decade and hasn't appeared in the majors since getting into four games for the White Sox during the 2021 campaign.
Greg Weissert will serve as the Yankees' 27th man for Sunday's split doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Weissert provides the Yankees with some extra bullpen depth for Sunday's twin bill at Fenway Park before heading back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Dodgers sent LHP Adam Kolarek outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Kolarek went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with Los Angeles as extra left-handed relief depth. The 34-year-old southpaw made one appearance this season in the majors for the Dodgers.
Dodgers designated RHP Tayler Scott for assignment.
Scott was removed from Los Angeles' 40-man roster on Saturday to make room for lefty Bryan Hudson to get the call to the majors. The 31-year-old righty has made six relief appearances this season for the Dodgers and might generate some interest on waivers.
Joey Wendle went 2-for-4 with a double on Saturday in the Marlins' win over the Nationals.
Wendle missed a pair of contests earlier this week due to a left groin strain, but managed to avoid a trip to the injured list, and has made two consecutive starts at shortstop for Miami since Friday.
Jesse Winker went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Saturday in his return to the Brewers' lineup.
Winker has really struggled this season in his Brewers debut and was finally back in the lineup following a nearly three-week absence due to a neck strain. It might take him a few games to get back up to speed against big-league pitching.
Kolby Allard (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Allard has been out all season after suffering a Grade 2 right oblique strain back in spring training. The 25-year-old southpaw will likely require a couple weeks of rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before being an option for either Atlanta's starting rotation mix or a long relief role.
Braves designated INF Charlie Culberson for assignment.
It simply defies logic that Culberson didn't get into a single game for the Braves after being summoned back on May 19 from Triple-A Gwinnett. The 34-year-old utility specialist will likely pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with Atlanta as extra organizational depth.
Braves recalled C Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Gwinnett.
This has to be viewed as an encouraging development for starting catcher Sean Murphy, who was lifted from Saturday's game against the Rockies due to right hamstring tightness. It appears the Braves are going to roll with three catchers for the moment and give Murphy a few days off to see if he'll avoid a trip to the injured list.
Jesse Scholtens tossed a perfect 11th inning on Saturday against the Mariners to record his first save of the season.
It's a bit unclear why Kendall Graveman didn't get the call in this one, especially since he hasn't pitched since Thursday, but it was Scholtens who was summoned to guard a narrow one-run advantage in extra-innings and managed to get the job done.
Chris Devenski was charged with two runs on Saturday in a blown save against the Royals.
Devenski was summoned to record the final two outs of the eighth inning and came back out to guard a one-run lead in the final frame. The 32-year-old righty has enjoyed an unexpected resurgence this season in Los Angeles, and got the call in this one due to Carlos Estévez's recent high usage. Unfortunately, he wound up surrendering a game-tying RBI single to Maikel Garcia and a walk-off hit to Samad Taylor.
Salvador Perez went 1-for-5 on Saturday in his return to the Royals' lineup.
Perez wound up only missing one game after suffering a left hand contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday's series finale against the Reds.
Christian Walker tattooed a two-run homer on Saturday in the Diamondbacks' win over the Guardians.
Walker supplied Arizona's only offense in the early stages of Saturday's contest with a fourth-inning blast to right-center field -- his 14th round-tripper of the season -- off righty Shane Bieber. The perpetually underrated 32-year-old first baseman is batting .265/.331/.502 with 39 runs scored, 14 homers, 45 RBI and one stolen base across 285 plate appearances.
Andrés Giménez went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a pair of RBI on Saturday in the Guardians' loss to the Diamondbacks.
Giménez was responsible for both of Cleveland's runs in a low-scoring affair out in the Arizona desert, coming through with a bases-loaded walk in the opening frame before taking southpaw Tommy Henry deep in the third inning. It was his fifth long ball of the season. The Guardians left an astounding 17 runners on-base in this one, spoiling four-hit efforts from Steven Kwan and Amed Rosario atop the lineup in the process.
Tommy Henry gave up two runs over six innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Guardians.
Henry delivered another strong effort, holding Cleveland's lineup to just a bases-loaded free pass in the opening frame, and an Andrés Giménez homer, over six frames. He notched three strikeouts and also handed out a pair of free passes. The 25-year-old lefty will bring a serviceable 4.66 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 36/22 K/BB ratio across 56 innings (11 appearances, 10 starts) into a favorable road tilt on Thursday against the Nationals.
Scott McGough was credited with a two-out save on Saturday against the Guardians.
McGough got the call to protect a four-run lead in the ninth inning after Kyle Nelson put a pair of runners on-base, and recorded only one out to open the frame. He gave up a single to Amed Rosario, but managed to retire José Ramírez on a sacrifice fly and coax a game-ending ground out from Josh Naylor. It was the first save situation for Arizona manager Torey Lovullo since Monday when Miguel Castro was summoned after McGough handled the previous chance over the weekend.
Luis Matos went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and also stole a base on Saturday in the Giants' lopsided win over the Dodgers.
Matos reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances and wound up scoring four times in San Francisco's blowout win. The 21-year-old top prospect has gotten off to an excellent start at the dish through three games in the majors and is worthy of at least a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats.
J.D. Davis went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBI on Saturday in the Giants' blowout win over the Dodgers.
Davis was held out of San Francisco's lineup due to an ongoing right ankle sprain, but wound up coming off the bench to smash a grand slam to center field off lefty reliever Alex Vesia in the sixth inning. He also tacked on an RBI single in the ninth inning as well.
