Phillies activated C Rafael Marchán from the 60-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Marchán has wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment and will remain stationed in the upper minors with J.T. Realmuto and Garrett Stubbs handling the Phillies' catching duties in the majors. The 24-year-old backstop has been out since spring training due to a fractured right hamate bone.
DJ LeMahieu is absent from the Yankees' lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Mariners.
It's worth noting that LeMahieu didn't play in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Red Sox either, so it's possible he's dealing with some type of minor injury. We'll see.
Samad Taylor is not in the Royals' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.
Taylor's speed and stolen base prowess make him an intriguing addition for fantasy managers, but he's going to have to play regularly to make an impact in shallow mixed leagues. He possesses enough defensive versatility to blossom into a lineup mainstay for the rebuilding Royals, but it'll be speedster Dairon Blanco in left field and defensive specialist Nick Lopez at second base on Tuesday evening.
Kerry Carpenter is not in the Tigers' lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Royals.
It's merely a routine off day for Carpenter, who is hitting a robust .395 (15-for-38) with two homers and five RBI in 11 games since returning from the injured list back on June 9.
Matt Vierling (back) is not in the Tigers' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
It's officially time to start getting concerned as Vierling will miss his third consecutive game on Tuesday evening due to lower back spasms. The lefty-mashing outfielder has dealt with back issues throughout the season, so it's possible he'll wind up recovering a trip to the injured list in the next few days.
Angels selected the contract of INF Kevin Padlo from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Padlo gets the call to the majors to provide Los Angeles with some extra infield depth after Anthony Rendon (wrist) landed on the injured list ahead of Tuesday's Freeway Series opener against the Dodgers. The 26-year-old got into seven games last year between the Pirates, Giants and Mariners.
Angels transferred LHP José Suarez from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Suarez remains shut down from throwing due to a left shoulder strain that he suffered back in early May. The 25-year-old lefty remains without an official timetable to return this season.
Athletics released 3B Dérmis Garcia.
Garcia was removed from the Athletics' 40-man roster back in late April and has now been released altogether. He got into 39 contests last year for Oakland and was hitting .263/.359/.532 with 12 homers and three steals across 198 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Nationals released LHP Alberto Baldonado.
Baldonado has been cut loose to pursue an opportunity overseas in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball. The 30-year-old lefty reliever hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2021 season.
Orioles sent RHP Noah Denoyer outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Denoyer passed through waivers unclaimed last week after being designated for assignment and will remain with the Orioles as organizational depth.
Athletics transferred RHP Drew Rucinski from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move opens up a spot on Oakland's 40-man roster and rules Rucinski out until at least mid-August as he continues to recover from a stomach illness.
Athletics optioned RHP Chad Smith to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Smith has been sent back to the minors to make room for newly-acquired reliever Yacksel Ríos to join Oakland's bullpen ahead of Tuesday's contest against the Guardians. The 28-year-old righty has made nine relief appearances this season in the majors.
Orioles designated RHP Spenser Watkins for assignment.
Watkins was effective as a versatile swingman for the Orioles over the past two years, but has yet to make an appearance in the majors this season, and is now off Baltimore's 40-man roster altogether. The 30-year-old right-hander's flexibility might draw some interest from other teams on waivers in the coming days.
Ryan Mountcastle (vertigo) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk.
Mountcastle landed on the injured list a couple weeks ago due to vertigo and will likely require a couple games to get back up to speed prior to rejoining Baltimore's lineup.
Rangers re-signed RHP Ian Kennedy to a minor league contract.
Kennedy is back with the Rangers roughly one month after electing free agency after being designated for assignment by the organization. The 38-year-old righty made 11 relief appearances this season in the majors and will head to Triple-A Round Rock as extra relief depth.
Orioles optioned C José Godoy to Triple-A Norfolk.
Godoy was up with the Orioles for exactly one game and will head back to the minors with Anthony Bemboom taking his spot on Baltimore's active roster.
Orioles recalled RHP Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A Norfolk.
Gillaspie gives the Orioles some extra bullpen depth heading into Monday's series opener against the Rays. The 26-year-old righty has made nine relief appearances this season in the majors, posting a lackluster 6.75 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and 6/4 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings.
Orioles selected the contract of C Anthony Bemboom from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bemboom got into three games earlier this season for the Orioles before being designated for assignment. The 33-year-old backstop will take over as Baltimore's backup catcher while James McCann is on the injured list.
Angels released INF Kevin Maitan.
Maitan was considered one of the top international prospects of the past decade when he signed with the Braves back in 2016 before having his contract voided after a scandal involving Atlanta's general manager John Coppolella. He ended up landing with the Angels instead on a $2.2 million signing bonus, and never wound up reaching the majors for Los Angeles. The 23-year-old infielder was batting .192/.300/.256 with one homer in 53 games this season for Double-A Rocket City.
Angels released 1B/OF Aaron Whitefield.
Whitefield appeared in eight games for the Angels over the last three years, but was really struggling this season, slashing .190/.280/.324 with three homers and 12 steals across 118 plate appearances over 37 games for Double-A Rocket City. The 26-year-old outfielder might get another shot somewhere else.
