Brewers sent 1B Jon Singleton outright to Triple-A Nashville.
He's declined the assignment and become a free agent. Singleton went 3-for-29 with two RBI before being let go by the Brewers on Saturday.
Jordan Walker is a bit under the weather, according to Cardinals manager Oli Marmol.
It sounds like he's available, but this did factor into him being the odd man out of the lineup today. The Cardinals have Lars Nootbaar and Dylan Carlson playing the outfield corners.
White Sox optioned RHP Nick Padilla to Triple-A Charlotte.
Padilla departs again after throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings on Monday. He'll probably be back next time the White Sox need a fresh arm.
White Sox added RHP Touki Toussaint to the active roster.
Toussaint was claimed off waivers from the Guardians yesterday. He last pitched on Friday, throwing 82 pitches in a start, so he should be ready to go long tonight, if needed.
Nationals recalled LHP Joe La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester.
La Sorsa had allowed three runs -- two earned -- in 3 1/3 innings for Rochester since being claimed off waivers from the Rays two weeks ago. He'll pitch in the middle innings.
Nationals selected the contract of OF Derek Hill from Triple-A Rochester.
The Nationals could have gone back to Alex Call with Victor Robles again on the shelf, but they'll give the former Tigers first-round pick a try after he hit .324/.381/.533 in 204 PA for Rochester. The 27-year-old Hill has hit .240/.291/.339 in 254 career PA in the majors, all with Detroit. He'll likely get most of the time in center for now.
Tarik Skubal (elbow) might have experienced blister issues while giving up two runs in 2 2/3 innings for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
This figured to be Skubal's next-to-last rehab starter, but we'll have to wait and see what happens with the finger. The left-hander is making his way back from flexor tendon surgery.
Jordan Walker is taking a seat Wednesday after being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning Tuesday.
There isn't supposed to be any injury here, but either Walker or Dylan Carlson will be sitting most days as long as the Cardinals continue to treat Tommy Edman as their everyday center fielder. Walker drew the short straw today even though he's batting .400 with four homers during a 13-game hitting streak.
Nicky Lopez is sitting Wednesday against a lefty after starting the Royals' previous four games.
Lopez is batting .129/.270/.194 with no RBI in 38 plate appearances this month. It's understandable that he's playing fairly regularly with Michael Massey on the IL, but the Royals could consider giving Samad Taylor a real look at second base. As is, Taylor has made three of his four starts in left field.
Matt Vierling is back in the Tigers lineup Wednesday after sitting for three days with back spasms.
Vierling did walk as a pinch-hitter last night and remained in to play center field. Jake Marisnick is out of the lineup with Vierling back.
Mark Canha is on the bench against a right-hander Wednesday versus the Astros.
Canha started against the lefty Tuesday, but he was also on the bench Monday against a right-hander. This might seem fair, given Canha's status as a solid but unexceptional righty bat, but Canha has fared a little better against righties than lefties both this season and over the course of his career. While it makes sense that the Mets want to play Tommy Pham regularly while he's hot, the team would be better off with Canha in left field and Pham at DH than with Pham in left field and Daniel Vogelbach at DH.
Mauricio Dubón is playing first base Wednesday for the first time as a professional.
Dubón has never made an appearance at the position since debuting with the Gulf Coast Red Sox in 2013, but José Abreu's .308 slugging percentage has forced the issue. Dubón is 6'0", so that's not a major impediment at first. He's also easily outhit Abreu thus far, coming in at .289/.314/.399 in 239 PA.
Tucupita Marcano is on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Marcano typically sits versus lefties, but he's out of the lineup against a righty today for the first time since May 13. The 23-year-old is batting just .192/.218/.269 in 55 plate appearances this month. Rodolfo Castro is starting in his place at shortstop.
Jose Siri is back in the lineup for the Rays on Wednesday after sitting out the last two games.
Siri has apparently been hurting since making a diving catch to end the Rays' win over the Red Sox on June 3 and received an injection. It might explain why he's 5-for-31 with 12 strikeouts in his last nine games.
Rockies optioned RHP Noah Davis to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Davis gave up five runs last night, leaving him 0-2 with a 7.47 ERA in four starts for the Rockies. They'll try someone else, perhaps Luis Cessa, next time they need a fifth starter. Since the Rockies have Thursday and next Monday off, they have some flexibility for now.
Rockies recalled RHP Karl Kauffmann from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Kauffmann will be available to provide length today, if necessary. He had an 11.37 ERA in three starts for the Rockies last month.
Garrett Hampson is in the Marlins lineup Wednesday for the fourth time in five games.
He's starting at third base today. Skip Schumaker must see a lot of himself in Hampson, since it's hard to see why Hampson would be playing time much otherwise. He's versatile, but it's not like he's very good defensively anywhere, and he strikes out too much for someone with so little power. He does have a .321 OBP this year, so he hasn't been terrible. Still, there's little reason to think he'll suddenly get better than replacement level.
Elehuris Montero is in the Rockies lineup Wednesday for the first time in five games.
He's playing first base and batting sixth. Montero is batting just .179/.216/.274 in 88 plate appearances, so he's been taking a backseat to Mike Moustakas against righties. He'll probably be sent back to Triple-A when the Rockies get healthier.
Spencer Steer is making his first start at third base since Apr. 25 in Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
He's also hitting second for the first time since May 1, as Matt McLain has the day off. Steer will likely do a fair amount of moving around with Joey Votto back, but he should stay in the lineup for the most part.
Miguel Amaya is in the Cubs lineup as a designated hitter on Wednesday.
Amaya didn't play the last two days after getting hit on the hand by a pitch Sunday. This is his first start at DH since June 8. Yan Gomes is doing the catching.
