Nationals optioned OF Alex Call to Triple-A Rochester.
The 28-year-old outfielder has struggled in his opportunities with the big league club this season -- slashing just .209/.299/.291 with three homers, 20 RBI, six stolen bases and a 48/26 K/BB ratio over 251 plate appearances. He'll bide his time at Triple-A until he's needed once more. Victor Robles (back) was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.
Angels recalled INF Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Salt Lake.
With Gio Urshela (hip) landing on the injured list on Friday, Stefanic will have an opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level. The 27-year-old was hitting .347/.446/.449 wtih two homers, 36 RBI and five stolen bases in 259 plate appearances at Triple-A Salt Lake.
Angels placed INF Gio Urshela on the 10-day injured list with a left pelvis fracture.
Ouch. Urshela suffered the injury during Thursday's game against the Rangers and was forced to walk around on crutches afterwards. There's no clear timeline yet as to how long he'll be shelved for. Michael Stefanic was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take his spot on the active roster.
Ryan McMahon is not in the Rockies' starting lineup for Friday's tilt against the Braves.
It looks like nothing more than a routine day of rest for the hard-hitting infielder. Coco Montes will start in his place at second base and will bat eighth against left-hander Jared Schuster and the Braves on Friday night in Atlanta.
Reds activated INF/OF Nick Senzel from the 10-day injured list.
Senzel had been sidelined since early June due to a nagging right knee injury. He looked good on a recent minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville though, and is now ready to return. He's surely to see his playing time impacted by the emergence of Elly De La Cruz however. Senzel is in the Reds lineup on Friday night -- batting seventh and playing third base against the Astros.
Mets' skipper Buck Showalter told reporters on Friday that Pete Alonso (wrist) has been hitting in the cages as he progresses in his recovery from a left wrist sprain.
Showalter was very vague with his timeline, simply saying that he expected Alonso to return "before long", but refused to give an actual timeline. The superstar slugger has been shelved since June 7 when he was hit by a pitch. Mark Canha is starting at first base again on Friday nigth and will continue to see increased action at the position while Alonso is sidelined.
Reds optioned INF/OF Jose Barrero to Triple-A Louisville.
With the return of Nick Senzel from the injured list on Friday, someone needed to go from the active roster and it looks like Barrero was the odd-man out this time around. The 25-year-old has hit .218/.295/.323 with two homers, 17 RBI and three stolen bases in 149 plate appearances on the season.
White Sox placed RHP Mike Clevinger on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 15, with right biceps inflammation.
As expected, Clevinger lands on the injured list after suffering a right biceps injury during Wednesday's start against the Dodgers. The White Sox are hopeful that he'll only need to miss a couple of weeks before returning to their starting rotation. Jesse Scholtens was summoned from Triple-A Charltote in a corresponding move on Friday.
White Sox recalled RHP Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Charlotte.
The 29-yea-rold hurler has made five appearances (one start) for the White Sox this season, registering a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WIHP and a 9/8 K/BB ratio over 16 2/3 innings. He'll give them a fresh arm in the bullpen that's capable of working multiple innings.
Harrison Bader (hamstring) was not activated from the injured list prior to Friday's game against the Red Sox.
He's still expected to return at some point during the Yankees' weekend series against the Red Sox -- it's just not going to be on Friday. Billy McKinney will start in center field and bat seventh against Tanner Houck on Friday evening at Fenway Park.
Astros activated RHP Ryne Stanek from the bereavement list.
Stanek has been away from the club for the past week while dealing with a family situation. Matt Gage will head back to Triple-A now that he's ready to return.
Astros optioned LHP Matt Gage to Triple-A Sugar Land.
The move clears the way for Ryne Stanek's return to the active roster. Gage has a 2.70 ERA and 8/3 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings with the Astros this season and should get another chance before long.
Willson Contreras is back in the Cardinals' lineup Friday against the Mets.
Contreras is back in the lineup after getting two days off. He'll bat fifth against Tylor Megill and catch Miles Mikolas.
Royals optioned INF/OF Nate Eaton to Triple-A Omaha.
He'll head back down to the minors with Samad Taylor poised to make his MLB debut. Eaton secured a stolen base after returning to the Royals last week, but he didn't log and at-bat and still finds himself 3-for-52 (.058) with 21 strikeouts in the majors this season.
Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports that prospect first baseman Spencer Horwitz is joining the Blue Jays in Arlington on Friday.
The Blue Jays have yet to announce the move, but it makes sense with Brandon Belt recently landing on the IL. Horwitz, 25, owns a strong .300/.421/.405 batting line with two homers and a 46/42 K/BB ratio over 57 games with Triple-A Buffalo this season.
Royals released INF Johan Camargo.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Camargo exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the club. The 29-year-old played well in a small sample in Triple-A, slashing .298/.412/.544 with four homers over 68 plate appearances. He'll now seek a better opportunity with a new team.
Salvador Perez (hand) is not in the Royals' starting lineup for Friday's matchup against the Angels.
Perez was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Reds after he was drilled in the left hand by fastball from Ben Lively. The good news, is that there's no structural damage -- and Perez has not landed on the injured list. It sounds like he may still miss a couple of games though while dealing with the pain and swelling. Freddy Fermin will start behind the dish on Friday night and bat sixth against Patrick Sandoval and the Angels.
Cardinals acquired INF/OF Richie Palacios from the Guardians for cash considerations; optioned him to Triple-A Memphis.
Palacios, 26, was designated for assignment earlier this week after hitting just .217/.351/.318 across 56 games in Triple-A so far this season. He has extensive experience at second base, but has most played in the outfield over the past couple of seasons. He'll look for better results in a new situation.
Cardinals transferred OF Tyler O'Neill to the 60-day injured list.
The move clears a spot for Richie Palacios on the 40-man roster. O'Neill has already missed more than a month with a lingering back injury and this move shouldn't impact his timeline for a return.
Red Sox released LHP Matt Dermody.
Dermody was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week after allowing three runs on four hits over four innings in a spot start against the Guardians. The 32-year-old will now try his luck on the open market.
