Rangers OF prospect Evan Carter (wrist) was assigned to the Arizona Complex League to begin a rehab assignment.
Carter was transferred to the Development List in early June due to soreness in his wrist. He was hitting .276/.404/.387 with four homers and nine steals before the injury, and he has a chance to make his major league debut sometime this summer.
Ramón Laureano (finger) struck out in a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning on Friday against the Phillies.
Laureno was held out of the starting lineup after he jammed his fingers while attempting to slide into third base on Tuesday. All indications are that the issue was minor. Look for him to return to A's lineup at some point this weekend.
Kenta Maeda (triceps) pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run but walked four in a minor league rehab start at Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.
Maeda threw 81 pitches, generating six swinging strikes and striking out four batters. Maeda has been on the shelf since last April with a right triceps strain. The Twins decided to go with a bullpen game on Saturday instead of activating the 35-year-old, so another rehab start could be on the docket next week.
Kyle Isbel (hamstring) went 2-for-4 with a double and home run in his rehab appearance with Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Isbel was 0-for-6 before Friday's explosion at Triple-A Omaha. Isbel has been on the shelf since early May with a Grade 2 hamstring strain and could return to the Royals' outfield within the next week.
Wilmer Flores went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer on Friday in a 7-5 win over the Dodgers.
The Giants were held hitless against Emmet Sheehan and the Dodgers through six innings. They we relieved to see him out of the game in the seventh and took advantage. With a runner on, Wilmer Flores put the team on the board with a two-run blast off Brusdar Graterol. The 31-year-old infielder is hitting .258/.324/.452 with seven homers and 23 RBI across 173 plate appearances.
John Brebbia tossed one scoreless inning as the opener on Friday against the Dodgers.
The Giants went with a bullpen game on Friday against the Giants. Brebbia opened the contest with a scoreless first inning, working around a walk. He'll retreat to the bullpen, taking a 3.14 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 36:10 K:BB ratio across 28 2/3 innings.
Jakob Junis struck out one batter in a clean inning on Friday to earn the save against the Dodgers.
The Giants took a two-run lead over the Dodgers in the top of the 11th before Junis took the mound to close it out. He tossed a clean inning, ending the game with a strikeout to Freddie Freeman for his first save of the season.
James Outman went 2-for-4 with two RBI on Friday against the Giants.
Outman had been struggling mightily over the last month coming into Friday's contest. He entered the game for David Peralta in the third inning and drove in a pair of runs with a base hit in the fifth. Outman added another hit in the eighth for his first multi-hit game in the last month. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .233/.326/.441 with nine homers, 32 RBI, and seven steals across 233 plate appearances.
Michael Kopech allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings on Friday in a no-decision against the Mariners.
Kopech walked a tightrope getting out of trouble in the first two innings. He worked around a walk and a single in the first before miraculously escaping a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the second. Kopech left two more baserunners stranded in the third and one in the fourth. The Mariners would finally bring one home on a pair of hits in the fifth. Kopech would leave with one out in the frame and the bases loaded. All three runners would be left stranded. The 27-year-old right-hander will carry a 3.92 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and an 89/39 K/BB across 78 innings into a start against the Rangers in Chicago on Wednesday.
Paul Sewald struck out two batters in the ninth on Friday against the White Sox to earn the save.
Sewald was called on in the top of the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead against the White Sox. He retired all three batters, striking out two for his 13th save. The 33-year-old right-hander holds an excellent 2.54 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 40/9 K/BB across 28 1/3 innings.
Andrew Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a solo homer on Friday against the Mariners.
The White Sox only managed a pair of solo homers against the Mariners. Benintendi provided one of them, taking Bryan Woo deep in the sixth inning. It was the first home run of the season for Benintendi, who has reportedly been dealing with some hand pain that has sapped his power. Still, the 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .265/.336/.349 with 33 runs scored, 17 RBI, and eight steals across 266 plate appearances.
Esteury Ruiz went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two steals on Friday against the Phillies.
Ruiz drove in the only run for the A's with a single in the third inning. He added a double in the sixth and added two steals in the game to extend is major league lead to 35, giving him an easy 60-steal pace. The 24-year-old outfielder is slashing .258/.315/.333 across 309 plate appearances.
Andrew Velazquez went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the Angels topped the Royals on Friday evening in Kansas City.
The 28-year-old shortstop led off the seventh inning with a double, then came around to score on a bases-loaded walk by Matt Thaiss. He also drew a two-out walk in the eighth inning and swiped second base, but wound up stranded there. So far in his limited action he's hitting .143/.250/.286 with one stolen base in eight plate appearances.
Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-4 with a solo homer on Friday against the Athletics.
Schwarber's annual June power surge continues. He sent a ball over the right field wall to lead off the game, blasting his sixth home run in the month and 18th for the season. The 30-year-old slugger is slashing .177/.327/.444 with the 18 homers and 38 RBI across 303 plate appearances.
Brandon Drury went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Friday night, leading the Angels to a 3-0 victory over the Royals in Kansas City.
Drury opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI single. He was then gunned down attempting to steal second base. He also smacked an RBI double in the sixth that extended the Halos' lead to 2-0, which would be more than enough run support for Patrick Sandoval and company. With the two-hit attack, the versatile infielder is now hitting .261/.309/.475 with 10 homers and 33 RBI on the season.
Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Friday to power the Phillies to a 6-1 win over the A's.
Bohm came into this contest hot, with three consecutive multi-hit games. He made it four on Friday. He sent one over the left-field wall off J.P. Sears in the fourth inning for a two-run homer before bringing in a run in the ninth on a base hit. The 26-year-old third baseman is hitting .274/.324/.420 with seven homers and 45 RBI across 238 plate appearances.
Yu Darvish allowed six runs over five innings on Friday in a loss against the Rays.
Darvish surrendered a solo homer to Isaac Paredes to start the second inning. A double and a base hit in the fourth would add the second run. Darvish got a tough break in the fifth after a liner to center field bounced off Trent Grisham's glove and was ruled a hit. A base hit would bring in the third run for the Rays. Then with two runners on, Randy Arozarena tacked on three more runs with a homer to left field. Darvish would finish the inning and be done the day at 87 pitches. The 36-year-old right-hander will take a 4.74 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 79/23 K/BB ratio across 74 innings into his next start against the Giants in San Francisco on Wednesday.
Chris Taylor was removed from Friday night's battle against the Giants due to right knee pain.
Taylor appeared to suffer the injury while running to first base in the second inning. He was ultimately pulled before he batted in the fourth. The severity of the injury is not yet known, and Taylor could be heading for further evaluation. Be sure to pay close attention to his status prior to Saturday's game, as a trip to the injured list is a possibility.
David Peralta was forced to leave Friday's game against the Giants due to a left hamstring strain.
Peralta likely suffered the injury while running to first base in the second inning, as he was replaced the following inning when the Dodgers took the field. He'll head for further evaluation. Expect the Dodgers to know more on his -- and Chris Taylor's status -- on Saturday.
Pete Fairbanks recorded the final two outs on Friday against the Padres to earn the save.
The Padres loaded the bases with one out, trailing by four runs before Fairbanks stepped in. He needed only two pitches, inducing a ground ball from Fernando Tatis Jr. for the defense to turn a double-play and end the game. Fairbanks is up to seven saves and has stepped back into the closer role with two since his return from the injured list.
