Reds purchased the contract of OF Aristides Aquino from Triple-A Louisville.

The Reds had to do some roster gymnastics with Aquino due to COVID protocols even though he's remained with the team the last few days. He'll get some starts against lefties.


Reds optioned OF TJ Friedl to Triple-A Louisville.

Friedl had been getting regular run in center field and in the leadoff spot against righties lately but failed to produce. With Nick Senzel back, he wasn't going to be playing much anymore.


Reds placed RHP Connor Overton on the 60-day injured list.

Overton will be shut down for 6-8 weeks after an MRI revealed a stress fracture in his lower back. He doesn't figure to make it back until well into the second half, if he makes it back at all this season.


Reds transferred INF Donovan Solano to the 60-day injured list.

Solano is still working out and his timetable has not changed as a result of this move. It allows the Reds another 40-man roster spot.


Tests on Steven Matz's injured left shoulder showed no additional cause for concern.

Matz was placed on the injured list earlier Monday with what was termed a left shoulder impingement, and it would appear that additional tests have cleared him of any structural damage. He's been prescribed rest for now and it will be determined at a later date whether he'll need an injection or something else.


JP Sears is likely to start for the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles.

The club needs a spot starter after a doubleheader over the weekend. Sears has made two scoreless relief appearances for the Yanks this season and boasts a 0.83 ERA and 30/2 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.


Yankees recalled INF/OF Miguel Andújar from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Andújar is taking Josh Donaldson's (COVID-19) spot on the roster and could see some action while the latter is out. The 27-year-old is 2-for-5 at the plate during his brief time with the big club this season.


Byron Buxton is back in the Twins' starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Tigers.

Buxton returns to center field and will lead off Monday evening after receiving a day off Sunday against the Royals. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar is hitting .228/.313/.604 with 24 runs scored, 11 home runs, 21 RBI and one stolen base in 115 plate appearances this season. He's still hitting for a ton of power this month, but is batting .189 (10-for-53) in 14 games since May 1.


Antonio Senzatela (back) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Senzatela's back is reportedly feeling better and he's scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday before embarking on a minor league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the Rockies' starting rotation at some point in early June.


Cardinals recalled C Iván Herrera from Triple-A Memphis.

Herrera has been summoned from the minors to provide the Cardinals with some emergency catching depth with veteran starter Yadier Molina heading to the bereavement list. The 21-year-old backstop will be making his debut if he gets into a game.


Orioles placed RHP Spenser Watkins on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion.

Watkins was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion after being hit by a comebacker during Sunday's start against the Rays. It doesn't sound like a serious concern and he should return at some point in early June.


Orioles optioned INF Tyler Nevin to Triple-A Norfolk.

The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart has begun to heat up after a slow start to his Twins debut this season, hitting .269/.342/.389 with 15 runs scored, two home runs and 14 RBI across 120 plate appearances.


Pirates transferred INF Kevin Newman from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

The procedural move opens up a spot on the Pirates' 40-man roster to call up righty Yerry De Los Santos from Triple-A Indianapolis. Newman experienced a setback in his recovery from a left groin strain last week during his minor league rehab assignment and won't be back until at least last June.


Jon Berti (COVID-19) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Jupiter.

Berti has been out since May 7 on the COVID-19 injured list and will need a brief minor league rehab assignment to get back up to speed before rejoining the Marlins' bench as a versatile super utility specialist.


Joey Wendle (hamstring) will start a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Jupiter.

Great news. Wendle landed on the 10-day injured list earlier this month with a strained right hamstring. He was in the midst of a fantastic Marlins debut this season, hitting .304/.368/.456 with two homers and four steals across 87 plate appearances. Barring any setbacks, he should return before the end of the month.
