Bryan De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a double versus the Pirates on Sunday.

Jun 25   4:23 PM

De La Cruz had three of the five highest exit velocities in today's game, delivering 110- and 105-mph singles and a 104-mph double. He hasn't homered since June 5, but maybe this will mark the end of a slump that has seen him go 9-for-51 in his last 12 games.

Johan Oviedo pitched seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in a loss to the Marlins.

Jun 25   4:23 PM

No help for Oviedo, who is 0-4 in June despite turning in four quality starts in five tries. He has a 2.96 in his last nine starts, though his peripherals aren't particularly strong. He still doesn't seem like a mixed-league SP.

A.J. Puk bounced back from Friday's blown save to pitch a perfect ninth with a two-run lead Sunday versus the Pirates.

Jun 25   4:23 PM

It's Puk's 11th save in 13 chances. He's been pretty busy in working three of the last four days, but he'll get a breather with the Marlins off Monday.

Tigers optioned INF Nick Maton to Triple-A Toledo.

Jun 25   4:03 PM

Maton was hitting .163/.289/.287 this season and will head to Triple-A to get back on track. The Tigers will make a corresponding move prior to Monday's game against the Rangers.

Giants activated RHP Ross Stripling from the 15-day injured list.

Jun 25   4:03 PM

The veteran right-hander looked excellent in his most recent rehab start on Thursday, where he struck out ten batters over four-plus innings of work. He is a candidate to start against the Blue Jays this week after spending a month on the injured list with a lower back strain.

Giants placed RHP Luke Jackson on the 15-day injured list with a low back strain.

Jun 25   4:03 PM

Jackson left Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks after firing a slider in the sixth inning. The team has not announced how severe the strain is, but he will get at least 15 days to help his back heal.

Bailey Ober tossed six innings of three-run ball Sunday but did not factor into the decision.

Jun 25   3:42 PM

Ober was cruising on Sunday until he allowed three runs to score off four hits in the bottom of the third inning. He settled down after that and went another three innings before he was lifted after the sixth inning. The 27-year-old generated 17 swinging strikes on 89 pitches, posting a 29 percent CSW. He will face the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday.

Michael Lorenzen yielded two runs over five innings but did not factor into the decision as the Tigers lost to the Twins on Sunday.

Jun 25   3:42 PM

Lorenzen scattered seven hits and struck out four batters on Sunday. The 31-year-old generated eight swinging strikes on 86 pitches, registering a 27 percent CSW. With the start, he lowered his ERA to 3.97 and will face the Rockies in Coors Field on Friday.

Donovan Solano went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer as the Twins defeated the Tigers 6-3 on Sunday.

Jun 25   3:42 PM

The 35-year-old journey got all over Michael Lorenzen's 83 mph sweeper and hit it 420 feet over the left field wall. Solano has been one of the better hitters for the Twins this season, hitting .277/.381/.397, while playing every day for Minnesota.

Jhoan Duran protected a three-run lead in the tenth inning and picked up his 11th save of the season on Sunday.

Jun 25   3:42 PM

Duran fired a scoreless tenth inning on Sunday and picked up his 11th save of the second. He struck out one and did not allow a hit or walk. The 25-year-old closer has been lights out this season, posting a microscopic 1.45 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and 42/14 K/BB ratio across 31 innings (28 appearances).

José Quintana (ribs) struck out five and allowed one earned run in a rehab appearance with High-A Brooklyn on Sunday.

Jun 25   3:24 PM

Quintana threw 47 pitches (32 strikes) and struck out five in a four-inning start at High-A Brooklyn on Sunday. He will likely need one more start, as he hasn't thrown more than four innings in his three rehab appearances. He could return to the Mets' rotation in early July if all goes well.

Miguel Vargas is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup for Sunday's finale against the Astros.

Jun 25   3:24 PM

Vargas will start Sunday's game on the bench as Mookie Betts starts at second base. The talented 23-year-old has been on the struggle bus all year and is hitting .202/.303/.378 with seven homers and three stolen bases across 273 plate appearances.

Red Sox LHP prospect Shane Drohan left his start on Sunday with a trainer after showing discomfort while warming up prior to the fifth inning.

Jun 25   3:05 PM

Yikes. Drohan had thrown four scoreless innings before he left with the trainer. The 24-year-old has pitched well this season, posting a 3.50 ERA across Double-A and Triple-A. The team should announce more after the game. Stay tuned.

Zach Neto (oblique) has not resumed baseball activities.

Jun 25   2:46 PM

Oblique injuries are notoriously tricky, so, unsurprisingly, the 22-year-old has been limited to light running. Neto did not travel with the team in Denver and is still receiving treatment. The team should announce more once they return from their road trip on Monday.

Carlos Rodón (back) pitched four innings of one-hit ball on Sunday in a minor league rehab game at Double-A Somerset.

Jun 25   2:46 PM

Rodón threw 48 pitches (36 strikes) and struck out four in his second rehab start. The 30-year-old left-hander has yet to throw a pitch for the Yankees due to back and elbow injuries. He will likely need another start or two before he makes his debut sometime in early July.

Pirates claimed RHP Andre Jackson off waiver from the Dodgers.

Jun 25   2:12 PM

Jackson struggled to a 6.62 ERA before being jettisoned off the roster on June 20. He has worked as a starter in the past but will likely see time in the Pirates pen later on.

LaMonte Wade Jr. is not in the Giants' starting lineup for Sunday's showdown against the Diamondbacks.

Jun 25   2:12 PM

LaMonte Wade Jr. missed three games this week due to tightness in his right side and will start Sunday's game on the bench. The Giants appear to be taking it easy on the 29-year-old first baseman, and he should return to the leadoff spot Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Pirates designated INF Mark Mathias for assignment.

Jun 25   2:12 PM

The Pirates picked up right-hander Andre Jackson off waiver, and Mathias was removed from the PIrates 40-man roster. If he clears waivers, he will likely return to Triple-A and serve as organizational depth.

Jordan Hicks allowed one run to score but picked up his fourth save Sunday against the Cardinals.

Jun 25   1:54 PM

Hicks allowed a leadoff double to Nick Madrigal and he was able to scamper to third base on a wild pitch. Nico Hoerner brought his home on a sacrifice fly, but that was the only damage the Cubs could inflict in the top of the ninth inning. Hicks has converted the past four saves for the Cardinals and looks to be the guy jogging in from the bullpen in the ninth inning for the foreseeable future.

Padres optioned RHP Matt Waldron to Triple-A El Paso.

Jun 25   1:54 PM

Waldron pitched well in his major league debut on Saturday but was optioned to Triple-A as the Padres needed a fully-rested reliever on Sunday. He will return to Triple-A to continue working as a starter.
