Paul Sewald suffered his second blown save of the season on Saturday, giving up a run on two hits and a walk in his lone inning of work against the White Sox.

Jun 17   8:51 PM

Sewald came on with a one-run lead to protect in the ninth inning on Saturday, but things got away from him as Elvis Andrus led off the inning with a single and Andrew Benintendi drew a one-out walk. Zach Remillard then smacked a game-tying RBI single into left field before Sewald retired the final two batters to escape further damage. He still sports a strong 2.76 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 41/10 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings on the season to go with a pair of wins and 13 saves in 15 chances.

J.P. Crawford launched a leadoff home run in a losing effort against the White Sox on Saturday.

Jun 17   8:51 PM

Crawford gave the Mariners an early 1-0 lead as he clobbered the first pitch thrown by Lucas Giolito for a 383-foot solo homer. He also drew a pair of walks in the extra-inning affair, finishing the day 1-for-4. On the season, the light-hitting shortstop is slashing .245/.353/.356 with four homers and 24 RBI.

Giants placed INF Wilmer Flores on the 10-day injured list with a left foot contusion.

Jun 17   8:51 PM

Flores worked out on the field on Saturday and tried to prove that he wouldn't require an extended absence, but ultimately the Giants felt it was best for him to rest properly and let the injury heal. Tristan Beck was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move on Saturday.

Eloy Jiménez crushed his eighth home run of the season on Saturday as the White Sox outlasted the Mariners in 11 innings.

Jun 17   8:51 PM

Jiménez got the White Sox on the board with a 418-foot solo shot off of Logan Gilbert in the second inning. That would be his only hit in five at-bats on the afternoon. The 26-year-old slugger is now slashing a middling .258/.310/.458 with eight homers and 27 RBI on the year.

Giants recalled RHP Tristan Beck from Triple-A Sacramento.

Jun 17   8:51 PM

The 26-year-old hurler was just optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, but he'll return with Wilmer Flores (foot) landing on the injured list prior to Saturday's contest. Beck has done a nice job for the Giants this season, registering a 3.73 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings in his 13 appearances.

Jose Altuve finished 4-for-4 with two doubles against the Reds on Saturday.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

Altuve came into the day hitting .171 in 41 at-bats this month. He raised his overall average from .240 to .278 today.

Brandon Bielak surrendered five runs -- four earned -- in 4 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Reds.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

Bielak gave up a two-run homer in the first and walked three in a second straight subpar start. If Ronel Blanco pitches well Sunday, it's possible Bielak could lose his rotation spot next time around.

Hunter Greene worked six innings and allowed two runs Saturday in the Reds' 10-3 win over the Astros.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

Greene is 2-0 in his last four starts after going 0-4 in his first 10 outings. He wasn't at his most dominant in winding up with three strikeouts and four walks today, but luckily for him, the Astros offense isn't making things particularly difficult for pitchers of late. He'll have a tough assignment at home against the Braves next week.

Will Benson went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two walks Saturday against the Astros.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

Even without the benefit of a homer, Benson raised his career OPS 58 points today. He's now hitting a respectable .264/.354/.375 in 82 plate appearances this season. Still, he'd seem to be in line to lose his roster spot anyway with Jake Fraley and Wil Myers both about to come off the IL.

Hitting with a total of 11 men on base, Nick Senzel went 0-for-5 and struck out three times Saturday against the Astros.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

Ouch. The Reds scored 10 runs anyway, but it was no thanks to their left fielder. He could lose quite a bit of playing time once Jake Fraley and Wil Myers come off the IL.

X-rays on the injured hand of Phillies' left-hander Cristopher Sánchez came back negative for any fractures on Saturday.

Jun 17   8:27 PM

The 26-year-old southpaw was hit in the hand by a comebacker during Saturday's start against the Athletics, but fortunately it appears that he was able to avoid any sort of serious injury. Phillies' skipper Rob Thomson said that Sánchez will be able to make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Mets.

Will Smith pitched around a pair of singles to pick up his 12th save Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Jun 17   8:07 PM

Smith worked a scoreless inning in spite of the hits. It was his first save in 11 days.

Dane Dunning yielded two runs in six innings Saturday as the Rangers topped the Blue Jays 4-2.

Jun 17   8:07 PM

Dunning wasn't very good in any of his previous three starts, but he did a nice job against a fine offense today and improved to 6-1 with a 2.78 ERA. It's the first time that he's completed six innings since May 16. He doesn't seem like a great play next week with his lone start coming in Yankee Stadium.

Guardians recalled LHP Tim Herrin from Triple-A Columbus.

Jun 17   8:07 PM

Herrin, 26, hasn't performed well in previous chances with the big league club this season, posting a 6.39 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 14/5 K/BB ratio over 12 2/3 innings. He'll give manager Terry Francona another option in the middle innings.

Giants placed RHP John Brebbia on the 15-day injured list with a lat strain.

Jun 17   8:07 PM

Giants activated LHP Alex Wood from the 15-day injured list.

Jun 17   8:07 PM

Wood has been shelved since early June due to a lower back strain. He allowed just one run over three innings in a minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Sacramento where he threw 33 of his 53 pitches for strikes. He isn't a recommended streaming option against the Dodgers on Saturday night.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk Saturday versus the Rangers.

Jun 17   7:42 PM

The walk came on an epic, 14-pitch battle with Dane Dunning. It was actually the only walk for Blue Jays hitters in the game. Guerrero also picked up a couple of hits, but he went homerless in a 12th straight game. He hasn't had a multi-RBI game since May 23.

Luis Guillorme went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Mets to victory over the Cardinals.

Jun 17   7:42 PM

Guillorme tagged Cardinals' right-hander Adam Wainwright for his 400-foot (99.4 mph EV) two-run shot in the fifth inning -- pulling the Mets to within a run at 4-3. That would be as close as they would get. With the two-hit attack, the 28-year-old infielder is now slashing .240/.321/.333 with one homer and seven RBI in 75 at-bats on the season.

Adam Wainwright logged a quality start in Saturday's victory over the Mets, surrendering three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Jun 17   7:42 PM

The 41-year-old right-hander walked two and struck out three on the afternoon. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Brandon Nimmo clubbed a leadoff homer in the first inning and Luis Guillorme clubbed a two-run shot in the fifth. Wainwright got six swings and misses on 93 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 22 percent. He'll look to further improve upon his underwhelming 5.56 ERA and 1.67 WHIP when he does battle against the Cubs on Saturday.

Marcus Semien finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Jun 17   7:42 PM

Semien had to cool off at some point, and he has while going 6-for-44 with one homer in his last 10 games. That's not really a concern. What is a concern is that he's now gone 31 straight games without attempting a stolen base. He was 7-for-8 in his first 39 games this season.
