Charlie Morton was charged with five runs (three earned) over five innings on Sunday in a win over the Rockies.
Morton fell behind early thanks in large part to a two-run blast by Ryan McMahon in the opening frame, but managed to settle down, and got plenty of run support from Atlanta's offense. He wound up finishing with eight strikeouts and also issued three walks. He'll carry a respectable 3.71 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 93/36 K/BB ratio across 80 innings (14 starts) into a tough road matchup on Saturday against the Reds.
Ozzie Albies went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBI on Sunday in the Braves' blowout win over the Rockies.
Albies continues to excel in the second spot in Atlanta's lineup. He clobbered a three-run homer off Chase Anderson in the fourth inning and also added an RBI single later in the contest. The Braves continue to roll this month, reeling off six consecutive victories, and have taken 13 of 16 games overall since June 1.
Alexis Díaz was nowhere to be seen in the Reds' save chances against the Astros on Sunday.
Díaz last pitched Friday, so it was quite a surprise not so see him on the mound with a one-run lead in the ninth, which was blown by Ian Gibaut, or again with a three-run lead in the 10th, which was preserved (well, except for the automatic runner) by Alex Young. We'll surely find out soon what was up.
Carlos Carrasco gave up six runs (five earned) over three innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.
Carrasco was fortunate to escape with a no-decision after giving up a pair of home runs and needing 61 pitches (39 strikes) to record only nine outs. He'll carry an inflated 6.34 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 28/21 K/BB ratio across 44 innings (nine starts) into a road tilt on Saturday against the division-rival Phillies.
Matthew Liberatore allowed five runs over four innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Mets.
Liberatore has struggled to work deep into starts this season at the major league level, and this outing was no exception. He gave up four hits, including a solo homer to Francisco Lindor. He notched only two strikeouts and also handed out a pair of free passes. He'll bring a lackluster 6.12 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 18/12 K/BB ratio across 25 innings (six appearances, five starts) into a matchup on Sunday against the Cubs across the pond in London.
Jordan Hicks tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday against the Mets to collect his second save of the season.
Hicks was summoned to guard a one-run advantage in the final frame to pick up a save for the second consecutive day. The hard-throwing appears to be emerging as a possible co-closer for the Cardinals along with Giovanny Gallegos while Ryan Helsley remains on the injured list.
Pete Alonso went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Sunday in his return to the Mets' lineup.
It's no surprise that Alonso looked a little bit rusty in his return to New York's lineup after missing nearly two weeks due to injury. The positive news for fantasy managers is that he's back nearly two weeks faster than originally anticipated when he was diagnosed with a left wrist sprain and bone bruise earlier this month.
Francisco Lindor belted a solo homer on Sunday in the Mets' loss to the Cardinals.
Lindor was out of the Mets' lineup on Saturday after his wife gave birth to their second daughter earlier in the day, but he was back in there, fittingly enough on Father's Day. The 29-year-old superstar shortstop took lefty Matthew Liberatore deep in the opening frame for his 13th long ball of the season.
X-rays on the injured hand/wrist of Cubs' catcher Miguel Amaya came back negative for any fractures on Sunday.
Amaya was plunked by a pitch during Sunday's game against the Orioles on his palm near his wrist, but fortunately it looks like he was able to avoid any structural damage. He'll be re-evaluated on Monday.
Clarke Schmidt allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.
Schmidt took the ball for the opening contest of Sunday's twin bill at Fenway Park and wound up failing to complete five frames in his second consecutive outing against the Red Sox. He notched three strikeouts and also issued three walks. He'll carry an underwhelming 4.65 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 73/22 K/BB ratio across 71 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a home matchup on either Friday or Saturday against the Rangers.
Gleyber Torres hit a two-run homer in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Torres took righty Kaleb Ort deep in the opening frame for his 12th long ball of the season. It was his lone hit in four at-bats in the opening contest of Sunday's split twin bill.
Alex Verdugo went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, leading the Red Sox to a 6-2 win over the Yankees in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Verdugo padded the Red Sox' lead with a sixth-inning RBI double off righty reliever Michael King as part of a two-hit effort. Boston will attempt to sweep the doubleheader and take all three games of the series during Sunday's nightcap.
Patrick Corbin was charged with four runs over six innings on Sunday in a loss to the Marlins.
Corbin surrendered 11 hits, but somehow none of them wound up leaving the yard. He struck out three and also issued two walks. He'll bring a serviceable 4.89 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 54/26 K/BB ratio across 84 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the Padres.
Jesús Luzardo allowed two runs over six innings on Sunday in a win over the Nationals.
Luzardo limited Washington's lineup to just a two-run homer by Lane Thomas over six solid frames to pick up his sixth win of the season. He finished with five strikeouts and also issued one walk. He'll carry a strong 4.09 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 94/22 K/BB ratio across 83 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a home outing Friday against the Pirates.
Andrew Nardi tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday against the Nationals to record his second save of the season.
Nardi got the call to work the final frame after A.J. Puk recorded a pair of saves the previous two days in the series. He gave up a leadoff double to Keibert Ruiz, but managed to strike out Stone Garrett and Michael Chavis before coaxing a game-ending pop up from Dominic Smith.
Lane Thomas hit a two-run homer on Sunday in the Nationals' loss to the Marlins.
Thomas took left-hander Jesús Luzardo deep into the third inning for his 11th long ball of the season. His round-tripper accounted for all of Washington's offensive output in this one.
Jacob Amaya went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base on Sunday, lifting the Marlins to a 4-2 victory over the Nationals.
Amaya put together a memorable major league debut on Sunday afternoon, helping the Marlins finish off a three-game sweep of the division-rival Nationals. He kicked off the scoring with an RBI ground out in the second inning and wound up stealing second base later in the frame. He recorded his first big league hit in the fourth inning by poking a single into left field.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters after Sunday's game that Jeimer Candelario is dealing with a bone bruise on his right thumb.
He sustained the injury when he was jammed on a swing during Saturday's game. He's considered day-to-day for the time being, but they'll wait and see how he's feeling on Monday before determining when he may be able to return to the Nationals' lineup.
Michael A. Taylor was removed from Sunday afternoon's battle against the Tigers after he was hit by a pitch on the back of his head.
Taylor attempted to duck out of the way of an inside pitch from Tigers' right-hander Alex Lange to start the eighth inning, and it hit him flush on the back of his head, just under the bottom of his helmet. Fortunately, Taylor was able to walk off the field under his own power. He'll head for further evaluation and likely be put through the concussion protocol. The Twins should have an update on his status shortly.
Miguel Amaya was removed from Sunday's game against the Orioles after being hit by a pitch.
Amaya managed to stay in the contest initially after being hit on the hand by a pitch, but was eventually lifted for a pinch-runner a couple innings later. There should be an update on his status sometime on Sunday evening.
