Red Sox optioned RHP Tayler Scott to Triple-A Worcester.
The 31-year-old hurler was acquired from the Dodgers on Thursday. He'll begin his Red Sox' tenure as additional bullpen depth at the Triple-A level, though it shouldn't take him long to earn an opportunity with the big league club.
Jorge Alfaro is absent from the Rockies' starting lineup for Friday's tilt against the Angels.
Alfaro had served as the team's designated hitter in four of their last five games, but he'll take a seat on the pine with left-hander Patrick Sandoval on the hill for the Angels on Friday night. Randal Grichuk will function as the the club's designated hitter while Elias Diaz handles the action behind the plate.
Mets recalled RHP Vinny Nittoli from Triple-A Syracuse.
He'll take right-hander Tylor Megill's place on the active roster after the struggling hurler was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday night. Nittoli, 32, has registered a 3.81 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 26/8 K/BB ratio over 26 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He'll give manager Buck Showalter another weapon to deploy in the middle innings.
Harrison Bader is not in the Yankees' starting lineup for Friday night's skirmish against the Rangers.
All seems to be well physically with the oft-injured outfielder, the Yankees are just cautiously easing him back into action following his return from the injured list. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start in his place in center field and bat sixth for the Yankees against Dane Dunning and the Rangers on Friday night.
Owen Miller is not in the Brewers' starting lineup for Friday night's contest against the Guardians.
Miller's bat has slumped in the month of June -- which combined with the return of both Willy Adames and Luis Urias has started to cost him time in the Brewers' lineup. This is the third time that has has found himself stationed on the Brewers' bench in the last six games. It'll be Urias manning second base and batting eighth for the Brewers on Friday evening in Cleveland.
Andrés Giménez is absent from the Guardians' starting lineup for Friday's matchup against the Brewers.
The 24-year-old infielder will get a breather on Friday night with veteran left-hander Wade Miley toeing the slab for the Brewers. Tyler Freeman will start in his place at second base and bat sixth for the Guardians on Friday.
Bo Naylor is not in the Guardians' starting lineup for the second consecutive game for Friday's battle against the Brewers.
For the second straight night, the 23-year-old backstop will take a seat with a left-hander on the mound for the opposition, in this case Wade Miley. Cam Gallagher will start in his place behind the dish and bat ninth for the Guardians on Friday evening in Cleveland.
Andy Ibáñez is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Twins.
It looks to be just a regular day of rest for the versatile 30-year-old after starting in four straight games for the Tigers. Zack Short will start in his place at second base and bat eighth for the Tigers against Kenta Maeda and the Twins on Friday night in Minneapolis.
Luke Raley underwent a CT scan on his right hand on Thursday night which came back negative for a fracture.
X-rays were also negative, so the Rays can breathe a sigh of relief here. Raley is out of the lineup on Friday, but considers himself available if needed. He's day-to-day for now.
Sean Murphy (hamstring) remained out of the Braves' starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Reds.
As anticipated, Murphy will once again be available off the bench for the Braves in this one, but isn't quite ready to return to action behind the plate. Murphy has been limited to pinch-hitting duties since sustaining a mild right hamstring strain on Saturday.
J.P. Crawford (shoulder) remains out of the Mariners' starting lineup for Friday night's showdown against the Orioles.
It's the third consecutive game that Crawford has missed since suffering a bizarre shoulder injury during Tuesday's game. He was tentatively expected to return to action on Friday, but the fact that he hasn't been placed on the injured list -- at least as of yet -- should bode well for his status going forward. Jose Caballero is once again manning the shortstop position and batting ninth for the Mariners against Kyle Gibson and the Orioles on Friday evening in Baltimore.
Luke Raley (hand) is not in Friday's lineup against the Royals.
X-rays came back negative after Raley was hit in the right hand by a pitch on Thursday, but the Rays were going to gather more information before making a determination on his status. We should know more soon. Manuel Margot is starting in right field on Friday.
Athletics recalled OF Conner Capel from Triple-A Las Vegas.
He'll replace the injured Ramòn Laureano (hand) on the active roster. Capel has hit .258/.347/.318 in 75 plate appearances with the A's this season. He's unlikely to be fantasy relevant in his return to the majors.
Edouard Julien is not in Friday's lineup against the Tigers.
Julien will take a seat against left-hander Joey Wentz. Kyle Farmer will start at second base and bat fifth while Donovan Solano will hit leadoff and play first base.
Jonah Heim is not in Friday's lineup against the Yankees.
Mitch Garver will catch Dane Dunning and bat seventh against right-hander Clark Schmidt. Meanwhile, Robbie Grossman will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.
Ross Stripling (back) struck out 10 batters while allowing two runs over four-plus innings in a rehab start with Class A San Jose on Thursday.
Stripling gave up four hits and walked none while getting stretched out to 66 pitches, 50 of them going for strikes. The veteran right-hander was placed on the injured list a month ago due to a low-back strain, but he should be ready to rejoin the Giants by the end of the month.
Riley Greene (leg) was spotted playing catch Friday without his air cast.
Good news. Greene was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left fibula at the end of May, but he's beginning to make some tangible signs of progress. Per Chris McCosky of the Detroit News, it looks like the Tigers were also setting some cones out for Greene to do some straight-line running. Riley is still a ways off -- mid-July might be the best-case scenario -- but he's ramping things up at the very least.
Alex Faedo (finger) threw a full bullpen session on Friday.
The next step could be an official minor league rehab assignment. Faedo has been out since the end of May after a specialist removed part of his right middle fingernail which had been causing blisters. He's back on track now, though, and a return in early July appears in reach.
Seth Elledge has elected to become a free agent.
Elledge, who was designated for assignment earlier this week, decided to test the open market rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Toledo. The 27-year-old has been with three organizations since March and will look for a more stable situation with his next stop.
Tigers signed INF Johan Camargo to a minor league contract.
He's been assigned to Triple-A Toledo. Camargo exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Royals last week after batting .298/.412/.544 with four homers in 15 games with their Triple-A affiliate. The 29-year-old will hope to eventually earn a call-up in Detroit.
