Players News

Jarren Duran went 2-for-5 and swiped three bags against the White Sox on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

Duran is 14-for-15 stealing bases in 58 games this season. He also played in 58 games last year, hitting .221/.283/.363. Right now, he's at .289/.346/.443. He's slowed down in recent weeks, but he seems like a clearly improved player both offensively and defensively; the Red Sox need to have him in the lineup regularly versus right-handers, even if it's at Adam Duvall's expense.

Kenley Jansen took a loss in the ninth after giving up a run to the White Sox on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

The run was originally unearned, but the error on a hard grounder to Triston Casas was later changed to a single. After that hit, a stolen base and a flare single to right followed, ending the game. It's the first run charged to Jansen since June 6 and the first he's allowed while not pitching in two games on a single day since May 13.

Kendall Graveman took a blown save but wound up with a win Saturday against the Red Sox.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

Graveman blew a one-run lead on a single, a stolen base, a wild pitch and then a soft single to right, all with two outs. It seemed like that would be the end of it, but he then walked two in a row to load the bases before striking out Adam Duvall to end the frame. The White Sox then won the game in the bottom of the ninth. In spite of the shaky performance, Graveman remains the clear favorite for saves in the White Sox pen.

Lance Lynn struck out seven and allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

It wasn't 16 strikeouts, like last time out against Seattle, but it was another solid showing from Lynn. Alas, he remains winless since May 26. His ERA stands at 6.40, mostly because his bad outings have been truly awful. He's due to face the Angels on Thursday.

Elvis Andrus singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the White Sox bested the Red Sox 5-4 on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

Andrus drove in Zach Remillard, who had just stolen second base as a pinch-runner, after Gavin Sheets reached on an infield single against Kenley Jansen. Andrus is hitting just .207/.279/.271 this season, but the White Sox seem poised to stick with him, especially after the switch today to put Tim Anderson at second and Andrus at shortstop.

Levi Stoudt is scheduled to start for the Reds on Sunday afternoon against the Braves.

Jun 24   10:41 PM

The 25-year-old hurler has not pitched well in two appearances (one start) for the Reds this season -- registering a 10.29 ERA and 2.14 WHIP over seven innings of work. No word yet on what move the Reds will make to free up a spot for the right-hander on the active roster.

Travis d'Arnaud finished 4-for-5 with a solo homer versus the Reds on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

With Sean Murphy hurting, d'Arnaud has caught all but three innings in the Braves' last seven games. It's been a terrific catching tandem for Atlanta, as d'Arnaud is hitting .283/.352/.487 with six homers in 125 plate appearances.

Matt McLain went 2-for-5 and hit his fourth homer versus the Braves on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

In spite of a four-homer effort from the offense, the Reds' winning streak is finally over. Spencer Steer, Jake Fraley and Will Benson joined McLain in going deep. McLain is being overshadowed by Elly De La Cruz, but he's been excellent in 36 games for the Reds, hitting .309/.367/.492 with 28 runs scored.

Graham Ashcraft was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Braves on Saturday.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

If the Reds were in a better rotation situation, Ashcraft likely would have made a rehab start or two before returning from his calf contusion, not because he missed much time (he was hurt on June 8) but because he was struggling mightily prior to the injury. After opening the season with a 2.00 ERA in his first six starts, he's come in at 12.82 in his last eight. He has options left, but the Reds will probably stick with him for now.

Raisel Iglesias recorded his 11th save despite giving up a pair of solo homers Saturday against the Reds.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

Iglesias used all of his three-run cushion in giving up back-to-back homers to Jake Fraley and Will Benson. He rebounded from there to fan Matt McLain and Jonathan India to end the game. Iglesias had very good velocity tonight, averaging 96.2 mph with his fastball, and he got five missed swings. He's now allowed four homers in 20 2/3 innings this season.

Jared Shuster lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs Saturday in a no-decision against the Reds.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

Shuster's velocity has been trending in the wrong direction, and he's been thoroughly average of late, even though he had an easy schedule coming into this one. If he's not better next time out, the Braves might want to see about giving Michael Soroka a longer look.

Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-5 and hit his 15th homer Saturday as the Braves halted the Reds' winning streak by prevailing 7-6.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

Ozuna had an RBI single in the third and a solo homer in the seventh. He's batting .317/.397/.556 with four homers this month, though that's merely average for a Braves hitter.

Jose De Leon suffered an apparent arm injury while warming up to enter Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Jun 24   10:10 PM

The right-hander was going to work the bottom of the eighth inning, but came leaping off the mound and grabbing at his right elbow after delivering a warm-up pitch and immediately sprinted to the dugout. He'll head for further evaluation, but it certainly didn't look good on the field on Saturday.

Cristopher Sánchez gave up three runs in five-plus innings Saturday in a loss to the Mets.

Jun 24   9:54 PM

The Mets' 15 balls in play against Sanchez averaged 97.1 mph, but he helped himself by walking none and the lone homer was a solo shot. The offense just didn't provide much assistance today. Sánchez has a 4.05 ERA in his three starts since being recalled. He'll likely face the Nationals in his next start.

David Robertson got a five-out save against the Phillies on Saturday.

Jun 24   9:54 PM

Robertson took over after Adam Ottavino walked two of the three batters he faced in the eighth and immediately got an inning-ending double play. He got another one to end the game in the ninth, so he got five outs while facing just four batters, even though one of those got a hit. It was his 11th save.

Max Scherzer pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out eight for the victory as the Mets defeated the Phillies 4-2 on Saturday.

Jun 24   9:54 PM

Scherzer won his fifth straight decision dating back to May 14. He has a 3.19 ERA and a 56/6 K/BB ratio over 48 innings in eight starts during the span. He'll next pitch at home against the Brewers on Thursday.

James Paxton (knee) said after Saturday's game that he expects to make his next scheduled start.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Paxton was forced to leave Saturday's start against the White Sox after only four innings due to soreness in his right knee, but the left-hander admitted it's an issue he felt during his last start as well and that it isn't a big deal. Fantasy managers may want to have a contingency option on hand for next week in the event that Paxton is unable to give it a go.

Andrés Muñoz was pulled from Saturday's outing against the Orioles due to light-headedness.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

All things considered, it's nice to hear that the right-hander wasn't dealing with any sort of injury on Saturday. Manager Scott Servais told reporters after the game that Muñoz should be fine and could be available out of the Mariners' bullpen on Sunday. He's considered day-to-day.

Osvaldo Bido allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Bido turned in another strong performance on Saturday afternoon in his third career start, limiting Miami's offense to just a two-run homer by Luis Arraez into the sixth inning. He registered five strikeouts and didn't hand out a free pass. He'll carry a respectable 3.45 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 18/5 K/BB ratio across 15 2/3 innings (three starts) into a home matchup on Friday against the Brewers.

Bryan Hoeing tossed five hitless innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Jun 24   8:11 PM

Hoeing issued three walks, but managed to hold the Pirates' lineup without a hit for five frames before turning things over to the rest of Miami's bullpen. The 26-year-old righty has pitched unexpectedly well this season, posting a stellar 2.31 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 35 innings (18 appearances, four starts). He's tentatively lined up to take the ball on Friday against the Braves.
