Adbert Alzolay pitched a hitless ninth Saturday against the Orioles for his fourth save.
Alzolay walked a batter with two outs, prompting a five-minute delay because umpire CB Bucknor wasn't actually sure of the count and if the batter had truly walked. After replay confirmed the walk, Alzolay shook it off and got Adley Rutschman to ground out to end the game. He's the clear favorite for saves in Chicago right now.
Anthony Santander finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts versus the Cubs on Saturday.
Santander was one of the AL's best hitters last month, but his June is looking a lot like his April; he is 11-for-56 with no homers this month, lowering his OPS from .857 to .784.
Dodgers selected the contract of LHP Bryan Hudson from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
It'll be the first trip to the big leagues for the 26-year-old southpaw. He has done a terrific job in 25 appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season -- registering a 2.17 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 51/14 K/BB ratio over 29 innings. He'll provide Dodgers' skipper Dave Roberts with another weapon to deploy in the middle innings.
Dodgers optioned RHP Tayler Scott to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 31-year-old hurler has struggled in his chances with the big league club this season, compiling a 9.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and an 8/4 K/BB ratio over six innings of work. He'll bide his time at Triple-A until he's needed once more. Bryan Hudson had his contract selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Saturday.
Saturday's scheduled contest between the Yankees and Red Sox was postponed due to inclement weather in Boston.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday. Saturday's scheduled starters -- Brayan Bello and Clarke Schmidt -- will presumably be pushed back to work in one of Sunday's games, provided that the weather cooperates.
Ramon Laureano was ejected from Saturday's contest against the Phillies in the first inning for arguing.
Laureano took a called third strike in the top half of the first inning, then Ryan Noda was called for a questionable strike where it looked like he may have checked his swing and the ball actually hit him. Laureano came out of the dugout to argue that Noda didn't swing, and was run from the game by third base umpire Brennan Miller. He'll watch the rest of the game from the clubhouse.
Joey Wentz was a hard-luck loser on Saturday, surrendering two runs in six innings and striking out nine against the Twins.
Wentz allowed just one walk and two singles in the contest. Unfortunately, they all came in a row in the fifth inning. The nine strikeouts topped his previous season high by two. The Tigers would have dropped him from their rotation several weeks ago if they'd been healthier, but he's been solid in his last four outings, lowering his ERA from 7.80 to 6.82.
Jhoan Duran pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save against the Tigers on Saturday.
It's just Duran's third save in six weeks. He's continued to be used primarily as a closer, but the Twins aren't taking a lot of leads into the ninth. Duran has a 1.33 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 27 innings.
José De León opened with two perfect innings as six Twins combined to pitch a three-hitter Saturday in a 2-0 win over the Tigers.
Emilio Pagán, Brent Headrick, Brock Stewart, Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran combined on the shutout in a bullpen game. It's great to see De León enjoying some success after all he's dealt with. The former Dodgers top prospect, who reached the majors in 2016, had an 8.44 ERA in six starts and 16 relief appearances in an injury-filled career coming into the season. He has a 3.38 ERA and a 17/4 K/BB ratio in 16 innings for the Twins at the moment.
Marlins' manager Skip Schumaker told reporters on Saturday that with Jean Segura on the injured list, Jon Berti will see the bulk of the action at third base.
Schumaker said he envisions Joey Wendle seeing most of the reps at shortstop with Berti handling the hot corner on a regular basis. That means it's time to add the 33-year-old speedster, as this is exactly the type of opportunity that he needs to rack up a bunch of stolen bases in a relatively short period of time.
Michael Massey (finger) remained out of the Royals' starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Angels.
Massey suffered a laceration to his left index finger prior to Friday's game, and he'll miss Saturday's contest as well. He's still considered day-to-day. Nicky Lopez will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh against Griffin Canning and the Angels on Saturday afternoon.
Nolan Gorman is batting sixth and playing second base in Saturday's contest against the Mets.
A feel-good story at the beginning of the season, Gorman has gone ice-cold at the plate. The 23-year-old is hitting .136/.208/.273 with a 52 percent strikeout rate in June. He will need to catch fire before the struggling Cardinals move him back up the lineup.
Tyler Matzek (elbow) has begun a throwing program.
Matzek underwent Tommy John surgery last October and began a throwing program in May. The 32-year-old is still expected to miss the entire 2023 season. He inked a two-year deal with the Braves last November so he will be suiting up for Atlanta next season.
Triston Casas is not Red Sox starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Yankees.
Even Casas' .330 OBP cannot keep the 23-year-old in the starting lineup for the Red Sox, who find themselves in the basement of the AL East. Justin Turner will play first base while Masataka Yoshida fills the role of designated hitter on Saturday.
Marlins recalled RHP Huascar Brazoban from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Brazoban returns to Miami's bullpen after Edward Cabrera landed on the injured list on Saturday. The 28-year-old posted a 4.01 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 37/18 K/BB ratio across 28 appearances earlier this year for the Marlins.
Dylan Carlson (elbow) was scratched from the Cardinals' starting lineup on Saturday.
Carlson is dealing with a left elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch on Friday. The 24-year-old is considered day-to-day, and Alec Burleson will take his spot in the lineup.
Rangers sent C Sandy León outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
Veteran catcher León went unclaimed after being designated for assignment and will remain with the Rangers organization as catching depth after going 6-for-41 for Texas this year.
Angels manager Phil Nevin said that Anthony Rendon is targeting Tuesday to return to the lineup.
It sounds like the veteran third baseman needs more than just a few days off after being hit by a pitch on Thursday. However, fantasy managers know they need to use a pencil instead of a permanent marker, as Rendon has been known to miss more time than expected this season.
Daniel Hudson (knee) struck out two and allowed one hit in a rehab appearance in the Arizona Complex League on Saturday.
Hudson has been working his way back from offseason knee surgery. He will likely head to Triple-A Oklahoma City this week before he returns to the Dodgers' bullpen.
Brewers sent RHP Cam Robinson outright to Triple-A Nashville.
Robinson went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain with the Brewers as organizational pitching depth.
